Production Porsche 918 Spyder Hybrid Revealed in Clay Model?

Tuesday, November 23, 2021 6:10PM - By Chris Weiss

Earlier today, Porsche made a big announcement about investing in its Weissach facilities that we probably would have never bothered reading. Great Porsche, I assume you’re going to develop some cars there: call us when those cars are ready.

However, a photo that Porsche released with the news is definitely more buzz-worthy. The photo above shows a Porsche designer working carefully on a clay model. The model is clearly the 918 Spyder Hybrid, but a few distinctions from the Geneva concept make us think that it might be a sneak peak at the production model. One of the side-mounted exhaust tips has mysteriously disappeared and the wheels look a bit different.

Lambo Chief Confirms Interest In Limited Production For Sesto Elemento

Monday, November 22, 2021 6:04PM - By Chris Weiss

Rumors last week that Lamborghini is planning a very small-scale production of the Sesto Elemento concept have just gotten a little more concrete. CEO Stephan Winkelmann told Autocar recently that the company is working toward a goal of production.

He said: “We are testing the Sesto Elemento at the moment and if it all goes well then we could look at a limited production run. But it would not be homologated because there are complications with things like airbags. It would be for track use only.”

No matter, Winkelmann said that there will be a max of 20 units built, so you’re not likely to see one on the streets anyway. [via Autocar]

Renault DeZir Concept On The Road

Friday, November 12, 2021 5:44PM - By Chris Weiss

The Renault DeZir concept was one of our favorites from the Paris Motor Show. Autocar recently got the opportunity to slide behind the wheel and see what the electric concept could do. And they videotaped it for our viewing pleasure.

The Renault DeZir is powered by a 110 kW electric motor and a 24 kWh lithium-ion battery similar to that in the Nissan Leaf. It boasts a 5-second 0-to-62 mph time and a 112 mph top speed. See what Autocar was able to do with it here.

Lamborghini Gives the Green Light To Sesto Elemento

Thursday, November 11, 2021 6:40PM - By Chris Weiss

Well that didn’t take long. Lamborghini displayed its Sesto Elemento concept at the Paris Motor Show in September/October. Officially it was meant to be a demonstration of Lamborghini’s new guiding philosophy of lighweight components and reeled in engines.

Today, a French automotive site indicates that Lamborghini has given the go-ahead for a very limited production of seven to 10 models. The exclusive concept turned limited edition is expected to run a price of €2.5 million/$3.44 million.

New Subaru Concept Teased

Tuesday, November 2, 2021 4:48PM - By Chris Weiss

Subaru has teased a new concept that it will debut at the LA Auto Show. One of those annoying “this is our new company direction”-style concepts, the point is to welcome in what Subaru calls “Confidence in Motion.”

I can’t really paraphrase with a straight face, so here’s the word straight from Subaru’s press release: ” ‘Confidence in Motion’ expresses Subaru’s aim to continue evolving in order to offer even more customers new ways to enrich their lives through a uniquely satisfying Subaru experience.”

So Subaru plans on continuing to build relevant cars that [more] people want to buy. Revolutionary. We’re guessing some type of a green powertrain.
The concept looks to be a pretty sporty car with some powerful curves. Other than that, we’ll have to wait until later this month to find out. [via WCF]

Bugatti Startos Straightline Motorcycle Concept

bugattistartos02 Bugatti Startos Straightline Motorcycle Concept

This here is some type of odd motorcycle concept designed by Bruno Delussu. What’s weird about it, in addition to the giant rear wheel and tiny front wheel, is that it’s designed to only go in straight lines-okay for land speed records, not so good for anything else. Those handles are just for holding, and no matter how hard you yank them, they won’t steer that front wheel an inch. It’s straight only, and with such a long, unwieldy body, I don’t imagine you’ll have much luck negotiating curves by leaning into them. Scary!

Paris Motor Show: Audi E-Tron Convertible

Friday, October 1, 2021 5:36PM - By Chris Weiss

This is the newest member of the conceptual Audi e-tron family: the Audi e-tron Spyder. The sexy baldie is based heavily on the original R4 e-tron shown in Detroit-at least on the outside. Inside it moves away from the all-electric powertrain of that model, relying instead upon a diesel-electric hybrid system. In an all-wheel-drive configuration, Audi uses a 300-hp twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine to drive the rear wheels and 44-hp electric motors at each front wheel.

Jaguar’s Big Paris Surprise: C-X75 Supercar Concept

Wednesday, September 29, 2021 4:40PM - By Chris Weiss

We’d have thought for sure the most exciting news of the day would be coming from Lamborghini’s camp, but it’s come from across the pond, instead. While Lambo’s Sesto Elemento is nothing short of lustrageous, Jaguar’s announcement of its own supercar concept is more exciting because a. we hadn’t heard a peep about it until today and b. Jaguar hasn’t made a supercar since the hot, sexy, world-record-breaking XJ220 ended back in 1994. So yeah, this is big news.

Lamborghini Unveils Sesto Elemento Concept. Finally!

Lambo Sesto Elemento 6 Lamborghini Unveils Sesto Elemento Concept. Finally!

After yesterday’s leak, we figured Lamborghini would have no choice but to unveil its new concept today, and indeed it has. After dropping the sixth and final teaser, which we won’t waste any more time on, Lamborghini released photos and information on the concept.

The Sesto Elemento, which means Sixth Element, uses a carbon fiber monocoque tub and carbon fiber all over-front end frame, body panels, suspension parts, rims-pretty much everywhere you look. As such, it cuts hundreds of pounds over other Lamborghinis and comes in at a featherweight 2,202 lbs. (or 999 kg if you want to be catchy). The 570-hp 5.2-liter V10 engine has no problem pushing that light, skeletal body to 62 mph in just 2.5 seconds on up to around 218 mph.
